Health Inequality Audits

back to programmes

The operating framework for 2007/08 for the first time identifies reductions in Health Inequalities as one of the top four priorities for the NHS. PMA have developed a highly sophisticated audit tool to examine the main drivers of health inequality in local health economies, evidence-based practice to minimise such inequalities and an audit process to examine the ways in which local health economies can best achieve their 2010/11 'floor targets'.

This work normally undertaken over a five month period in a typical Primary Care Trust has produced impressive results and supported major health inequality initiatives in a number of PCTs including Walsall, Birmingham, Redcar & Cleveland, and Stoke on Trent. There is substantial demand for this work, which usually results in the production of a computer disk for local use amongst key stakeholders together with a summary booklet and guidance notes for use of a very substantial piece of work. Ward by ward analysis is then used to generate ward-based action plans for local authority and NHS services

The Programme Director of this work is David Wigley a highly experienced consultant in this field with a background in social policy consultancy.
