The National Health Institute for improvement and innovation 'Breaking Through' programme is an important element in achieving equality and diversity throughout the NHS. PMA have worked closely with the Iinstitute in developing our own coaching and mentoring programmes and PMA’s consultants include Wendy Twigger, a highly experienced private sector and public sector coach; Jeff Chandra, whose coaching expertise is matched by a background of very senior health management appointments; and Professor Bryan Stoten Director of PMA and a co-initiator of the mentoring training for senior consultants' programme 'Mentoring for Success'. Our consultants offer support for black and minority ethnic managers looking for promotion and career development within the NHS and we are able to facilitate secondments and shadowing at a senior level.

Ideally, such coaching takes places over four meetings, generally 'off site' to enable the manager to gain distance and perspective both regarding their current role and their career aspirations.

Mentoring programmes of a longer duration are also available for board level directors.
